Time & Strike English Longcase Clock

Classic English longcase clock featuring a walnut case in beautiful, original condition. The patina is wonderful, and there was no effort spared in preserving it. Note that the hinged door on the dial hood maintains its original glass, as evidenced by its period rippling.

- RESTORATION STORY -

Here's a wonderful grandfather clock with a case in original condition from mid 19th century. George Archbold was a clockmaker based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England. He was known for his fine craftsmanship and produced various types of clocks, including longcase and tavern clocks. Situated on the border between England and Scotland, Berwick-upon-Tweed has a rich history of clockmaking, and George Archbold contributed to this tradition with his skillful workmanship. - SCOPE OF WORK -

Removed, dismantled, cleaned and inspected movement. Clock showed signs of prior work including pivot bushing installation and was in average condition.
- Observed fly arbor pivot wear and pivot hole elongation. Fly arbor pivot broken.
- Other pivot holes were properly bushed and in excellent condition.
- Case was neglected with dirt, dust and tobacco accumulation over nearly 200 years of operation.
- Door hinge areas were incorrectly repaired with white spackle.
- Minute hand clutch spring inoperable.
Polished all steel and brass wheels, plates, pallets and pieces; reassembled movement
Re-pivoted fly arbor
Installed 2 fly arbor pivot bushings
Polished all pivots
Adjusted minute hand clutch
Replaced missing movement arbor lock pins
Oiled movement
Greased pallet levers
Repaired incorrectly spackled hinge area on both door and case
Supplied and cut door lock key
Supplied winding crank; stained and varnished handle to match clock case
Repaired bonnet wood support
Polished wood case and brass hands, preserving patina
Bench tested movement for two weeks and regulated time
Delivered to customer and set up
