Shelf Clock With Rosewood Columns & Original Reverse Glass Paintings
Classic American Seth Thomas column-and-cornice weight-driven shelf clock restored with movement overhaul, dial restoration, and case conservation, preserving original reverse glass verre églomisé.
- RESTORATION STORY -
This clock had been in storage with broken weight cables for many years before it was discovered to have its original reverse glass paintings intact--extraordinary for a clock from 1880. The exterior glass surfaces and lovely walnut and rosewood case were contaminated with tobacco and industrial pollution, conditions that were beyond acceptable patina. The dial was also badly chipped. Thus, a full restoration was carried out to bring this "time machine" back to life. Detailed scope of work follows the gallery.
